Both are likely to attend the ceremony.

"He assured Rahul Gandhi that he will continue to seek guidance both on governance, policy and welfare issues which is the agenda of the Congress and JD (S) coalition".

The top leadership of the two parties chose to make a new beginning, leaving behind the past, when they had come together and fallen apart, and vowed to ensure "a long-term relationship".

This issue came up for discussion between Kumaraswamy, Rahul and Sonia Gandhi at Delhi on Tuesday. While Kumaraswamy will be sworn in as chief minister on Wednesday, the trust vote is likely on Thursday. However, nominations for the Speaker's post will be filed the same day and the Congress has staked its claim to the post, it being the larger party.

Senior Congress leader A.K. Antony on Monday said his party's aim was to oust Prime Minister Narendra Modi from power by joining hands with secular parties, adding that the Congress-JD (S) combine in Karnataka was a step in this direction. JD (S) won six seats in north Karnataka in the recently-concluded Assembly polls - two each in Vijayapura and Raichur and one each in Yadgir and Bidar. I will be attending his swearing in as CM of Karnataka, on Wednesday, in Bengaluru.

The Congress-JD (S) combine will give a stable government in Karnataka, JD (S) leader and chief minister- designate HD Kumaraswamy said in the national capital.

The Gandhi's also told Kumaraswamy to "forget the past, look at the future and forge a long-term relationship".

"There is no bargain". We will cordially work out things.

K C Venugopal, AICC in-charge of Karnataka, was also present at the meeting.

After the meeting, Mr Gandhi tweeted: "I had a warm and cordial meeting with Mr Kumaraswamyji". We discussed the political situation in Karnataka and other matters of mutual interest. I requested their presence in my oath-taking ceremony. Insiders say a joint meeting of Congress and JD (S) legislators is also expected to be held on Tuesday. Keeping this in mind, our seniors took a decision to support the JD-S.

The Congress and the JD-S didn't want their coalition to be confined only to power-sharing in Karnataka and the parties were also in favour of a broader alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. What isn't though is if he will take the oath alone or will he have his fellow ministers on stage as well. A section of the Congress party feels that the party's state unit chief G. Parameshwara, is a contender for the post.

The Congress had released three such tapes in run up to the floor test, claiming that the BJP leaders were trying to "poach" on the party MLAs by offering "blandishments".
