Texas Governor to Hold Talks on School Violence After Massacre

The attack at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas, came a little more than three months after a 19-year-old shot dead 17 students and educators at a Florida high school.

By the end of the melee, eight students and two teachers were killed.

Shana Fisher celebrated her 16th birthday just nine days before she was killed on campus, her mother told the Houston Chronicle.

In April 2007, a senior at the university committed the deadliest school shooting in modern USA history, killing 32 people and injuring 17 others in two separate attacks on campus - one in a co-ed dormitory and the other in the Engineering, Science and Mechanics building.

Students at Santa Fe High School had different opinions on whether the alleged shooter was a normal, friendly kid. Her family wasn't present for Sunday's worship.

Cecilia "Cissy" Reynolds-Perez, principal of Ray High School in Corpus Christi and a board member of the Texas School Safety Center, hopes the discussion will cover how staffing ratios and school environment contribute to student stress.

Angelique Ramirez attended Santa Fe's Dayspring Church along with her family.

"She was shy and sweet", her mother said.

"I am seeking the best solutions to make our schools more secure and to keep our communities safe", he said in a statement.

North identifies the "disease" as youngsters growing up in a culture where violence is commonplace. Investigators haven't linked the suspect to Ritalin or other drugs.

On Friday, Santa Fe, Texas, was the site of the latest mass shooting at a school in the U.S. Ten people were killed and 13 injured after a 17-year-old student entered the school with his father's shotgun and handgun. But questions about who's funding those politicians are fair game.

"I saw videos. I saw what occurred, from the viewpoint of the cameras, I don't believe so", Trochesset said.

The governor spoke privately to worshippers as they arrived but did not speak to the media.

The first funeral for one of the 10 people fatally shot at a high school outside Houston is set for Sunday afternoon.

"If that means five metal detectors getting in and out of the high school, you get five metal detectors."
Her daughter, Sarah, is recovering from gunshot wounds in the neck and shoulder.

Her body is to be returned to her family in Karachi, Pakistan.

While the massacre reignited the debate over gun control, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said guns aren't to blame. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo has been pointed in his response to the violence in nearby Santa Fe.

Patrick tells ABC's "The Week" he supports background checks for gun purchasers but stresses "gun regulation starts at home".
