Powertrains are also fully-compliant with future emissions standards.

It uses the 48-volt battery to boost acceleration, when necessary, and extend the engine's "off time" using a Mild-Hybrid Starter Generator and can reduce Carbon dioxide emissions by up to four per cent on the Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP).

Exact prices and specifications have not been revealed, but it shouldn't pack too much of a premium over the outgoing version, with a starting price of around or just under £20,000.

The 2019 Kia Sportage gets a new 2.0-litre EcoDynamic+ 48V mild-hybrid turbo diesel engine. The new motor is part of the automaker's global powertrain electrification strategy and features a mild-hybrid starter/generator unit with a 48-volt battery that cuts down Carbon dioxide emissions by four per cent. Kia is the first manufacturer to offer hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery-electric and 48-volt mild-hybrid technology across its full model line-up. One in three Kias sold in Britain is a Sportage, making it a hugely important vehicle for the brand. EcoDynamics+ supplements acceleration with power from a 48-volt battery, and extends engine-off time with a new Mild-Hybrid Starter-Generator unit. Options include chrome sill trim and metallic skid plates, and five new paint colours.

This time around, the company has also introduced the new 1.6-litre diesel engine that comes as a replacement to the existing 1.7-litre CRDi diesel engine.
