After his body was found in a French hotel on Friday morning, Bourdain's death was confirmed to be suicide-related, according to his employer CNN.

In a memo to staff, CNN chief Jeff Zucker called Bourdain "an exceptional talent". Through the simple act of sharing meals, he showcased both the extraordinary diversity of cultures and cuisines, yet how much we all have in common.

In the same Paris Review piece, Newnam recalled Bourdain's response to a tripe-phobic listener who asked if it was okay if she informed her host she's rather poke her eye out than eat whatever trendy offal was on their menu. The most common sentiment: "I feel like I've lost a friend". The show won a Peabody award in 2013.

Bourdain first found fame with an irreverent 2000 memoir, Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly, which recalled his life as a New York City cook.

"´Low plastic stool, cheap but delicious noodles, cold Hanoi beer.´ This is how I´ll remember Tony", Obama said Friday in a tweet. After its success, he ventured into television and helmed shows on the Food Network, the Travel Channel, and CNN.

In 2013 he moved to CNN where he worked up until his death - the show is now on its eleventh series.

"He loved food. He wrote about food". "I'd agree with him, and then I'd play another Billy Joel song, which infuriated him".

He is survived by his teenaged daughter with former wife Ottavia Busia. He was recently romantically linked to 42-year-old Asia Argento, an Italian actress and activist who condemned disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein at the Cannes Film Festival in May. I'm so sad for his friends.

"Anthony gave all of himself in everything that he did". His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds. "He was my love, my rock, my protector", she said on Twitter. "It doesn´t protect you from suicide", Jodi Gold, director of the Gold Center for Mind Health and Wellness, said on CNN.

The Depot Eatery & Oyster Bar owner spent four days with Bourdain, who committed suicide in France overnight aged 61, during filming of Bourdain's No Reservations New Zealand episode in 2005.
