"Ronaldo is crucial", Portugal coach Fernando Santos said, "but we know that to win we need to play well as a team".

Nacho has admitted that he is relishing the prospect of potentially being tasked with stopping Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo when Spain take on Portugal in the World Cup next week.

Real Madrid themselves appear to be playing hardball, and President Florentino Perez maintains that Ronaldo is under contract for another three years and will therefore will remain in the Spanish capital for the foreseeable future.

The report says Ronaldo is "determined' to part ways with Madrid this summer, but only to ply his trade in a handful of specific competitions".

After talking about his stint as a Real player in past tense, the five-time Ballon d'Or victor gave ambiguous answers when he was asked to clarify his post-match comments later in the day. The celebrated footballer had rejected a "heavily bonus-based" new contract earlier this year, according to Daily Mail.

It will be the team's seventh World Cup appearance and the 33-year-old Ronaldo's fourth and likely last campaign.

Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Juventus are interested in acquiring the captain of the Portuguese national squad.

Both players are now with their national teams preparing for the FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation, which starts on 14 June.

Despite not scoring a goal, the Real star's return to the side following a brief break after the Champions League final, inspired them to end a two-match winless streak.
