Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno has decided that he wants to join Arsenal.

SportBild say an agreement has almost been reached for a deal worth around £20m as the Gunners look to provide competition for Petr Cech, who is 36 and has one year left on his contract.

Arsenal's attempts to provide greater defensive solidity are continuing unabated as they close in on the signing of Sampdoria holding midfielder Lucas Torreira.

Leno has been once of the most consistent keepers in German football in recent years and he kept an impressive 10 clean sheets in his 33 Bundesliga appearances last season to help Leverkusen finish 5th in the table.

Leno, 26, is seen as a long-term replacement for Petr Cech at Arsenal, while Torreira is the Gunners' top midfield target. Napoli appeared to be emerging as favourites but the report says they failed to agree terms over a fee with Leverkusen which has opened the door for Arsenal.

It's a busy week of transfer business at the Emirates with a number of players closing in on moves to Arsenal.

It is already looking like it will be a big summer for the Gunners, with Unai Emery having taken on the challenge of replacing Arsene Wenger, who held his post for 22 years, although had let the squad diminish into a team of average players.
