Primary Results: Trump’s Hold on the GOP Is Showing

Early results in South Carolina's 1st congressional district shows U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford, R-Charleston, trailing with 47 percent of the vote, versus 48 percent for state Rep. Katie Arrington, R-Dorchester.

"I fully endorse Katie Arrington for Congress in SC, a state I love".

Before the final results were even tallied, Sanford told supporters, "I've always been a realist and at this point, based on the numbers I see, I think that I will end up losing this election". But Arrington made an issue of his criticism of the president, calling him a "Never Trumper".

The president congratulated last week for the Republican Party's showing in Tuesday's California primaries. Pete Domenici and Michelle Laxalt, the daughter of former Nevada governor and senator Paul Laxalt, CNN projects.
