Russian Federation built on its reputation for lavish spending on sporting events, investing billions of dollars into preparations for the 2018 World Cup, the global soccer tournament that will feature 32 teams playing in 11 cities across the country this month.

Additionally, Russian soprano Aida Garifullina will perform alongside Williams while Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo - a two time World Cup champion - is also present during the opening ceremony, according to Federation Internationale de Football Association.

Ronaldo was part of the triumphant Brazil squad at the 1994 World Cup, albeit he did not feature, and then claimed the Golden Boot with eight goals as he led his nation to the trophy eight years later.

"I'm so happy and excited to be going back to Russian Federation for such a unique performance", Robbie said of the honour.

"I've done a lot in my career, and opening the FIFA World Cup to 80,000 football fans in the stadium and many millions all over the world is a boyhood dream".

The ceremony will begin half an hour before the game kicks off at 6pm local time (4pm BST).

Organisers FIFA said the opening ceremony will have a "slightly different format" to previous years and focus on musical acts.

The former Take That star will perform at the opening ceremony at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium along with Russian soprano Aida Garifullina.

Trump also assured that the U.S. would hold the tournament "in a similarly open and festive manner" as the 1996 and 2002 Olympic Games that the United States hosted, the Times reported.

Following the decision of world football body, FIFA, to overhaul its monthly ranking system to make standing more fair and logical, the Super Eagles and many other nations that have won matches against stronger nations are in position to profit in the new order.
