His original attorneys, including a Washington-based partner and a New York-based partner from the large firm McDermott Will & Emery, have not yet told the judge overseeing his case in NY, where Cohen is challenging prosecutors' ability to see all the documents they seized.

Wednesday morning's top story has undoubtedly been the report from ABC's George Stephanopoulos that Michael Cohen - President Donald Trump's lawyer - is parting ways with his attorneys and is on the verge of cooperating with Federal authorities.

"Attorney-client privilege is dead!"

Donald Trump's former personal lawyer is expected to cooperate with the Mueller investigation. Mr. Cohen wants to hire a lawyer with close ties to the Manhattan U.S. attorney's office, the people said.

As to why Cohen may feel compelled to cooperate with federal prosecutors, only Michael Cohen can say-but Ken White, a defense lawyer who makes a living off battling the government, gave us one idea.

Ryan and Harrison didn't immediately respond to messages.

Cohen has been represented since 2017 by Stephen Ryan, a Washington lawyer initially hired to prepare him for congressional testimony about alleged Russian interference in the presidential election.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of NY is investigating Cohen for various possible crimes, including potential bank fraud and campaign finance violations. For several months now, the prosecutors have been looking into whether Cohen broke the law in any business projects, including hush-money payments he made to women who claim they had affairs with Trump.

While Cohen has not been charged with a crime, he is the subject of an investigation by federal prosecutors of alleged wire fraud and other crimes. "It's an attack on all we stand for", President Trump said during a meeting with senior military leadership at the White House in April.
