You may be desperate to play Call of Duty Black Ops 4, but if you haven't played the last installment in the shooter franchise you can now pick up Black Ops 3 for free on PlayStation 4.

PlayStation 4 Europe and Xbox One: If you own a copy of the game, you can purchase a separate upgrade to your base version through the PSN Store or Xbox Store to receive the Black Ops Pass. This includes the PlayStation exclusive Jungle, Summit, Slums and Firing Range. In addition to this, a host of remastered maps are coming to Black Ops 3 and Black Ops 4.

It will remain to be seen how long it will take for Activision to make the Black Ops Pass available standalone, or how much it will cost. BOP content should be downloaded from the in-game store only; do not purchase separately, or you will be charged again.

"You'll need to log in with a Call of Duty account and enter your Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Private Beta code".

Call of Duty: Black Ops III was originally out in 2015 on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. You could always take the risk of going standard, but then there's the chance of not being able to get any DLC if a standalone Black Ops Pass never goes up for sale.

Update: As kindly pointed out by reader Roe in the comments section, Call of Duty: Black Ops III will be available free for a full month, until 11th July.

At present, Activision is encouraging players to grab the Digital Deluxe Edition, the Digital Deluxe Enhanced Edition, or the Pro Edition to get their hands on the pass (each edition also comes with extra goodies). As more is learned about the game and the Black Ops Pass, however, this could change.
