Hours after the noon PT deadline imposed by Golden Boy Promotions for Gennady Golovkin to agree on the financial terms for a rematch against Canelo Alvarez, the much-anticipated middleweight title pay-per-view bout is on for September 15 in Las Vegas.

Things went down to the wire today in negotiations between Golovkin and Canelo's teams. Golovkin would get 42.5 percent, ESPN reports.

De La Hoya told Rafael the fight was "100 percent over", but as that was happening, Golden Boy President Eric Gomez was putting together a "Hail Mary idea" to break the deadlock.

Golovkin and Alvarez were originally scheduled for a May 5 bout, but Alvarez had to pull out of the event following two positive tests for a banned substance.

Good times for boxing fans, the sport and everyone else who has a passing interest in seeing two of the best fighters in the world throw down. Golovkin and Alvarez met last September at the T-Mobile Arena, the same site where the rematch will take place, and fought to a heavily disputed draw that most thought Golovkin won. The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Alvarez for six months and Golovkin successfully defended his title against Vanes Martirosyan.
