Crawford stops Horn to seize welterweight title

Crawford dominated Jeff Horn on Saturday in NY, earning a ninth-round stoppage to take the belt and insert himself in the conversation for top fights in an extremely intriguing welterweight division.

Horn will have won some of his United States critics over simply by absorbing punishment for so long from arguably the world's top pound-for-pound fighter.

Whatever be the reason, Horn, who had upset Manny Pacquiao to win the belt previous year, couldn't win a single round before being stopped by Crawford, losing for the first time in his professional career. Pacquiao is set to face Lucas Matthysse in July, for Matthysse's WBA title, but also has openly campaigned to face Vasyl Lomachenko in his next fight.

This is the first defeat of Jeff horn on a professional ring.

"I felt off a bit gassy at the start of the fight".

Horn said the American was too crafty.

It will be a hard task trying to line up an opponent who is beatable enough to boost Horn's dented confidence, but good enough to keep him in the world title mix.

"I feel like I'm getting better and better", he added, "feel like I'm stronger, more energized, I feel like this is a great division for me".

"We're going to make up a plan and see where we go, but I assure you that we're looking for the biggest fights out there".

"I definitely don't want to leave here, losing a fight and then running", he said.

The former WBO lightweight champion and undisputed super-welterweight champion, Crawford, sharp-shooted his way to victory and ultimately outclassed Jeff before securing a ninth-round stoppage.

"Crawford just had too much of everything, except courage" Lewis said. "I thought the referee did a good job and Jeff did not get hurt so he will learn from the experience". "The loss won't be the end of me".

"I definitely want to come back and have some big wins over here".

Trainers Glenn Rushton and Brian McIntyre also traded insults for weeks before fight night but a threatened violent confrontation never eventuated.
