Volvo Cars has announced that it has developed a new electrified performance package (dubbed "Polestar Engineered") for the upcoming 60 Series T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid derivatives. Like that vehicle, these high-spec "60 series" models will incorporate Polestar's new aesthetic trademarks, such as gold-painted brake calipers, Brembo monoblock units in this case.

We'll have to wait until next week to see the all-new South Carolina-built Volvo S60 in its entirety.

The Polestar Engineered packages transforms wheels, brakes, suspension and the car's engine ECU. It is the first of three confirmed Polestar Engineered models. The yellow hue is to become the new hallmark color for Polestar.

In addition, Volvo confirmed that Polestar Engineered would be offered on the new V60 estate and XC60 SUV from 2019, and would be available "globally in limited numbers". The eight-speed automatic transmission has also been recalibrated to speed up changes and sharpen response. A slotted design in the brake discs and the brake pads improve heat tolerance.

A number of dynamic features accompany the Polestar Engineered S60's additional power, including adjustable Öhlins shock absorbers and a strut-tower brace cribbed from the 600-hp Polestar 1 gasoline-electric hybrid coupe as well as a pair of gold-painted six-piston Brembo calipers for the front brakes. Seatbelt straps are gold, too, and the auto comes with Polestar emblems and black chrome exhaust pipes.

With Polestar having recently split off into a separate premium brand focusing on electrification, it might seem odd to see the badge return to a "conventional" Volvo product.

Henrik Green, senior vice-president of research and development at Volvo, said that the parts have been "fine-tuned to work together, delivering a responsive and exciting driver's car".
