Former NBA star Dennis Rodman openly wept on television in a live interview from Singapore as President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met for the first time.

Reclusive North Korean leader Kim Jong Un went on an evening tour of Singapore on Monday, posing with city-state officials at a tropical garden before visiting an infinity pool atop a landmark waterfront hotel, to the surprise of guests.

"When you don't hash out all the issues, just one meeting isn't going to help", Dong said.

HU: Now what different and unique really means, we don't know.

North Koreans have always wanted a meeting with a US president, just no previous administration was willing to do this kind of meeting unless it came with a substantive commitment or concession on denuclearization.

Trump has also said he'd consider inviting Kim to Washington for a second round of talks.

He would not say whether that included the possibility of withdrawing US troops from the Korean Peninsula, but said the USA was "prepared to take what will be security assurances that are different, unique, than America's been willing to provide previously".

Pompeo said Monday the only acceptable outcome of the summit is "complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization" or dismantlement.

North Korea has said it is willing to commit to denuclearisation, but it is unclear how this will be achieved or what might be requested in return. "If diplomacy does not move in the right direction. those measures will increase". Trump said. "We will be fine!"

After Donald Trump talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the president will give an interview to Sean Hannity of Fox News Channel.

Kim is due to leave on Tuesday afternoon, a source involved in the planning of his visit has said.

Kim's black armored limousine with two large North Korean flags was surrounded Tuesday by police vehicles, their lights flashing, and other black cars.

Just a few months ago, Kim was an worldwide pariah accused of ordering the killing of his uncle, a half-brother and scores of officials suspected of disloyalty. Trump left the summit early, and as he flew to Singapore, he tweeted that he was yanking the United States out of the group's traditional closing statement.

Of course, the stakes for Trump's gamble to meet with Kim remain incredibly high, and the administration spent much of the day downplaying the chances for a lasting breakthrough. "We're hopeful that we can achieve that in the 2-1/2 years".

His excursion out of the hotel caused a big stir with guests who were told to get behind a barricade while dozens of North Korean security men and Singapore police officers and government officials blocked off the lobby.

One US official said the two sides were working to craft a joint US-North Korea "statement of understanding" that could be released after the talks. It heralded the summit as part of a "changed era".

Talks would focus on "the issue of building a permanent and durable peace-keeping mechanism on the Korean peninsula, the issue of realising the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula and other issues of mutual concern", it added.

After the June 2000 summit, family members in North and South Korea separated by the Korean War were able to reunite, and the two Koreas marched together in the opening ceremony of the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. The topics discussed were not immediately disclosed, but Trump said he approved of the progress made.

"The process could be doomed before it begins".

For decades, North Korea has been a pariah state, and now its latest hereditary leader is being treated as a world statesman. During past negotiations, North Korea has reneged on agreements, and after getting what they wanted, and then failed to hold up their end of the bargain.
