KTAB and KRBC called Abilene's Whataburger locations, and learned the store on Danville Drive is out of small buns but has regular buns and Texas Toast.

However, due to a quality control issue, the fast-food chain is not now serving Texas toast at its Texas restaurants.

"We voluntarily removed white buns and Texas Toast from some of our restaurants in the DFW area, East and West Texas, Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas because of a quality issue with one of our suppliers". We plan to have new 5-inch buns delivered to affected restaurants today.

'We apologize for any inconvenience this closure may cause for our customers, ' Lang further said in the statement.

Whataburger stores are open and continue to serve burgers and sandwiches on wheat buns, tortillas or as a bunless platter, the company statement said. Customers visiting a restaurant experiencing a shortage of buns can enjoy extended breakfast hours until 1pm today.

No date was given for white buns to return: "The company looks forward to getting back to business as usual just as soon as we can".

A drive-thru sign is displayed outside of a In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Dallas, Texas on October 25, 2016. This is not a food safety issue. Customers there can substitute their toast for another side item or an additional chicken finger. "We are hoping to have this resolved by tomorrow".

Bun quality issues also forced In-N-Out to temporarily close its Texas locations on Monday.

Whataburger also pulled buns from several locations Wednesday due to quality control issues.

In-N-Out closed for a couple of days this week after its shipment of buns were not up to the restaurant's standards either.
