The health department recommends keeping skin covered when outside at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.

And WNV already has been detected in IL.

"The heavy rain can increase the population after the rain stops and recedes because there will be a lot of pockets of water by having a lot of pockets of water mosquitos are going to find water to lay their eggs", Debboun added. When providers suspect a mosquito-borne illness, the department in cooperation with county health departments investigates and samples can be tested at the DOH Wadsworth Laboratory.

It's worth noting that the following week, the district did not detect any WNV in its traps.

Three mosquito pools in Lucas County have tested positive for West Nile Virus, local health and sanitation officials said. Hanson suggests residents drain sources of standing water around their homes such as bird baths, wading pools, flowerpots or old tires. "If you're feeling that way in the summertime. go see your doctor". This year, the department will also provide mosquito repellent wipes and larvicide at The Fair, which runs from August 22 through September 3. Symptoms may last from a few days to a few weeks.

Halton Region has started its annual larviciding program to reduce the risk of West Nile virus (WNV) in the community. Serious complications include neurological illnesses, such as meningitis and encephalitis. If you are over 60 or have a weakened immune system you are at higher risk for severe illness from WNV.

Drain: Drain standing water from items around your home, yard, and business.

Use EPA-approved repellent and apply according to label instructions.
