The Walking Dead: Jon Bernthal Is Returning in Season 9

He's landed his own series, The Punisher, along with roles in Fury, Sicario, The Accountant, Wind River, Baby Driver, and The Wolf of Wall Street.

"The Walking Dead" has been in a zombie-like state, creatively speaking, so today's story from the Hollywood Reporter that former regular Jon Bernthal will appear in the upcoming Season 9 couldn't be more welcome. He also now stars in the Marvel-Netflix series "The Punisher", a role he originated in Season 2 of "Daredevil".

For those keeping score at home, The Walking Dead is entering its ninth season, which - in addition to Shane's abbreviated turn - will also allegedly feature the departure of lead character Rick, the perpetually-sobbing (and increasingly unhinged) police officer played by Andrew Lincoln.

There are no details on how exactly Shane will return. Since the character suffered a very conclusive death in the second season's penultimate episode, it's safe to assume that the character will either appear in a flashback segment, or perhaps as a hallucination of sorts - two things that The Walking Dead has been known to do from time to time. When the series started, Rick and Shane were best friends, and banded together to fight the walker invasion.

We don't cover The Walking Dead much here at BMD because, real talk, we all stopped watching it years ago. He then came back to life as a walker before being shot down by Carl.

Also no word yet on which cast members will attend this year, but the network has a habit of pulling out all the stops for The Walking Dead at Comic-Con for fans.
