Xbox fans were confused by the constant delays and teased by leaks, but now, Microsoft is finally set to bring their new avatar system to life.

In its E3 presentation previous year, Microsoft announced that it was making a major overhaul to the Xbox avatar system.

Microsoft has said that it will add even more clothing, props, moods and accessories in the future and there will be an avatar store where it'll be possible to purchase new items. The dashboard integration for the new avatars doesn't yet exist, so preview members will only be able to customise their avatars in the editor for now and won't be able to display them immediately on the dashboard.

And Microsoft says that there's now an "unprecedented" amount of options when creating your avatar, ranging from different body types to gender-neutral clothing. You can customize fingernails, makeup, limbs, nose rings, and moods.

Players will also be able to use the new colour selector which supports over 16 million options for skin tone, hair, wearables, and props. The majority of closet items also allow for multiple custom colours. Fortunately, your recently used colors will be saved so you can reuse them.

For Xbox Insiders, certain users get access to new features early in order to test them out before they become available for everyone else. The Photobooth feature in the Avatar Editor enables you to capture a great photo of your Avatar to use as your Gamerpic. As before, avatars can be rotated, there will be zoom controls, and you can choose from a selection of background colours.

"Thanks to the powerful new Avatar Editor app, virtually every aspect of your avatar can be personalized on-the-fly".
