While the president, the first lady, and their adult children have been the subject of scorn throughout Trump's tenure, there is an unspoken agreement across the media that 12-year-old Barron is off-limits.

The 78-year-old year old actor and brother of Jane Fonda unleashed a series of tweets in connection to the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy that includes separating children from their parents who are attempting to enter the US illegally.

"We should rip Barron Trump from his mother's arms and put him in a cage with pedophiles and see if his mother will stand up against the giant a-hole she is married to", he wrote in all caps.

The 78-year-old "Easy Rider" star was referencing President Donald Trump's new "zero tolerance" policy at the border, separating more than 2,000 immigrant children from their parents since Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the measure last month. It was wrong and I should not have done it.

Fonda also called for the public harassment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, including harassing their children at school. "I immediately regretted it and sincerely apologise to the family for what I said and any hurt my words have caused". The all-capitals tweet early Wednesday went on to call President Donald Trump an expletive.

According to the Daily Caller, Stephanie Grisham, a spokesperson for the first lady, said that the Secret Service had been notified of Fonda's inflammatory Twitter remark.

Grisham told the outlet, "The tweet is sick and irresponsible and USSS has been notified".

Both tweets were met with condemnation from Trump supporters, including his son Donald Trump Jr., who has used it as an opportunity to target Sony Pictures Classics, which is releasing the Shana Feste film "Boundaries" later this week, one that feature Fonda in a supporting role.

While Fonda saw some support for his rant and engaged with his followers about how to start a huge countrywide protest against the Trump administration's policies, others were not so happy about his approach.
