Diego Costa's lone goal in the second half gave Spain a 1-0 win over Iran in their World Cup Group B match here on Wednesday. HEAD TO HEAD:Both sides have not met before, the clash on Wednesday will be first between both sides.

It has since been reported that the member of staff has been discharged from hospital and has rejoined the camp, ready for Iran's crunch Group B game against Portugal in Saransk on Monday.

Where: Last 30 seconds into stoppage time, the mighty Spaniards are trying to retain a narrow lead of 1-0 against Iran.

Iranian women have also travelled to the World Cup in Russian Federation in numbers to see their team take on Spain at the Kazan Arena.

After a match played out to a deafening blare from vuvuzelas blown by a huge army of Iranian fans, Spain will feel relieved to have emerged with the points and content that they played the better football against Carlos Queiroz's stingy side.

It was obvious that Iran's primary objective was to frustrate the Spanish, and they did so very effectively. "That's the beauty of the World Cup", he said. They "blindly trust" each other, as Iniesta said on Tuesday.

As if coming up against the likes of Andres Iniesta, Sergio Ramos and Diego Costa was not already a daunting enough proposition, it is a Spanish outfit that will be going all out for victory after they began their campaign with a 3-3 draw against Portugal.

However, while their defensive rigidity may make them a stronger opponent for Spain than many suspect, it's hard to look past Hierro's side for this one. A single goal can condemn a team, or make it a champion, an enormous difference that Spain needs to be aware of if it is to regain their confidence after such a terrible match against Iran.

The praise is now flowing Costa's way, with Spain coach Fernando Hierro also taking the opportunity to congratulate him and make it clear once again that he is Spain's No9 on merit: "His commitment is fantastic". They have said those things and more about Diego Costa over the last four years, since he made his debut for Spain. "It was during the first half, they were provoking us".

After Costa scored in the 54th minute, the Iranians changed strategy and showed more attacking intents but failed to get even. With Spain and Portugal both having secured a win and a draw and Portugal expected to trounce Iran on Monday, both Iberian countries will nearly certainly proceed to the knockout stage of the tournament, leaving Morocco and Iran out of the running.
