Forty-eight-year-old Melania Trump wore the jacket, which is from Zara and costs just $39, at Andrews Air Force in Maryland where she got on a plane to the Upbring New Hope Children's Shelter.

Melania's visit to McAllen comes amid the bipartisan backlash over the Trump administration's enforcement of a "zero-tolerance" policy - criminally prosecuting migrants who cross the US-Mexico border.

A spokesperson for the White House made a statement to say "there was no hidden message" in Melania's outfit choice - while the President tweeted to say her jacket referred to "fake news".

Spain's Queen Letizia, meanwhile, used her fashion more strategically and wore an American brand: Michael Kors, one of Trump's favorite designers.

Melania should give "I REALLY DON'T CARE" flack jackets to her husband, Jeff Sessions, Stephen Miller, John Kelly, Kirstjen Nielsen and Alex Azar, because they deserve all the flack that's coming at them.

"It's a jacket. There was no hidden message". Right after her PR stunt.

The jacket was also nowhere to be seen in the pictures she posted to Instagram from the same event.

But Wildfang, a queer-owned clothing company headquartered in Portland, Ore., chose to mobilize around the moment, creating a series of "I Really Care, Don't U?" merchandise.

"That money is going to help reunite families, and provide advocacy for immigrants in need", the company wrote.

Wildfang said it raised $15,000 for RAICES after the jacket sold out. The words were written in large white letters on the back.

But the jacket the U.S. first lady wore for Thursday's trip conveyed a different message.

Far be it for me to criticise the sartorial choices of a First Lady of the United States - given I am a lower-than-dirt internet writer boy - but I simply must register my displeasure with this particular one.

"Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!" the president tweeted.

Melania Trump has been accused of distracting people from Donald Trump policy by wearing "I really don't care" jacket during her first visit to a shelter housing immigration children in Texas. I don't buy that she's that callous. "(Much like her high heels past year.)", Grisham said.

On Wednesday, the president signed an executive order created to end the family-separation policy.
