Unlike other parts of the country where a Clean Air Zone is a mandatory requirement, the council is proactively looking to introduce the new zone.

"Under the government's air quality plans, unsafe levels of air pollution in around 71 percent of United Kingdom towns and cities is likely to be the case for another 12 years", the report said.

The two pollutants causing most concern in Birmingham are nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and fine airborne particulate matter (PM2.5).

Messages promoting Clean Air Day have also been displayed on all major routes into Aylesbury town centre on the electronic road signs with a message highlighting what action motorists can take to improve air quality on the day itself, such as turning your vehicle engine off when in traffic.

It is proposed that the Clean Air Zone should cover all roads within the A4540 Middleway ring road.

Under the proposals for the preferred Class D option, charges would apply to the most polluting vehicles which enter the Clean Air Zone, including buses, coaches, lorries, taxis and private hire vehicles, vans and private cars. In this working group, we will therefore explore in more depth how indoor air pollution affects vulnerable groups, and how its health effects can be prevented.

This is why soon we are backing Clean Air Day ahead of a new consultation on clean air zones in the city.

Support for businesses to innovate clean transport technology and enable the United Kingdom to be a global leader in manufacturing low-emission vehicles post-Brexit as part of the Road to Zero Transport, Clean Growth and Industrial Strategies.

Young children are exposed to 30% more vehicle pollution than adults because they are short, according to new research. Poor air quality is also linked to about 40,000 early deaths in the United Kingdom every year.

"If your vehicle meets nationally set engine emissions standards then you will not need to pay anything". They also gathered in the traffic-free road to spell out a huge "We love clean air" message. "We need to radically reduce the number of cars driving in and around Leeds and give people affordable and reliable public transport as well as safe walking and cycling routes across the city".

Alan Ross convener of Dundee city council's community safety and public protection committee said: "There are loads of small changes we can all make that will contribute to cleaner air in our city which when added together make a big difference to raising awareness about Clean Air Day, improving our air quality and with it the quality of our lives".
