Google Home and Chromecast are down, affecting users worldwide

The Made by Google Twitter account says that a fix will be rolling out automatically over the next six hours.

Users of the Chromecast Product Forum noticed the outage early on Wednesday morning (US time) when the Chromecast icon disappeared from streaming applications like Netflix, HBO and YouTube.

If you're an avid Google Home and or Chromecast user, there's a chance that you've encountered an error message this morning or just found that your device isn't working.

So if you are having issues with your Google Home, Home Mini, Home Max, or Chromecast devices, you are not alone.

Are you affected by the outage? Hopefully, Google should have things fixed soon. To get your Google Home running again, you will need to reboot your smart speaker. Many users report that they can't stream anything on their Chromecast, nor cast content to devices that support Chromecast.

Try saying "Hey, Google" to your device and you will receive a reply in no time saying, "there was a glitch, try again in a few seconds" or something like "sorry, something went wrong, try again in a few seconds". Google says they are working on fixing them both.

Users can't cast apps to Chromecasts and Google Home speakers won't respond to voice commands.

"The fact that it's been twelve hours my Chromecast has not been working and we're only now finding out there's an issue because of @madebygoogle that is ridiculous", wrote one Twitter user. "We'll keep you posted once we get a fix".

Google is acknowledging the issue, confirming the problems to TechCrunch, but isn't getting specific at this stage. The simplest way is to unplug the device, leave it unplugged for a minute, and then plug it back in.
