In an exclusive chat with the Liverpool Echo, Thompson reckoned he'd pay up to £50 million for the former Hull City man - especially after his displays for England in the World Cup.

Harry Kane is now preparing for the biggest game of his career, but that has not stopped him taking time out of his day to make one young fan's week.

Liverpool have been tentatively linked with a move for Maguire in the past and Thompson believes that his qualities would complement Van Dijk well.

"Since then he's got better and better".

On a night of drama in Moscow, Harry Maguire and Jamie Vardy starred as England won their first-ever FIFA World Cup penalty shootout to reach the quarter-finals with victory over Colombia.

'I was saying long before the tournament started that he has all the attributes needed to be a Liverpool player.

Thanks to the power of social media, the Tweet came to Kane's attention and England's star striker was quick to send his best wishes to Ben and called him an "inspiration". He dominates in the air and that's a major asset both defensively and offensively. He's better than John Stones when it comes to passing it out from the back.

The 25-year-old has been excellent for England during the World Cup and is also being linked with Tottenham. I can't speak more highly of him.

He was unable to walk and talk before his treatment but a week ago he spoke for the first time since his illness to say all he wanted was the World Cup when the treatment was over.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been tipped to sign Paulo Dybala from Juventus with the Argentina global facing an uncertain future in Turin, according to reports in the Daily Express.

'Big clubs will be after him and I'd like to think that Liverpool would be at the forefront'.
