Mickelson says match with Woods in the works

Not with $10 million on the line.

Mickelson and Woods sent the golf world into a tizzy when they played a Masters practice round together in April. "We'll play for whatever makes him uncomfortable", he said.

And that could be just as good for golf as for Woods and Mickelson. Though that match could not be agreed upon in time, Shipnuck reported Friday that both the Woods and Mickelson camps "remain committed to making it happen as soon as it's feasible".

"We both like to talk smack, and we both have fun with what we're doing".

Woods and Mickelson were reportedly set to face off in a $10 million match on July 3 in Las Vegas, but negotiations couldn't be completed in time.

"It's a ridiculous amount of money".

Mickelson confirmed to Shipnuck that the involved parties are "working on a different date". 'I thought it was done for the third, but obviously it wasn't'. "No matter how much money you have, this amount will take both of us out of our comfort zone".

Tiger has transcended the sport and brought in viewers that are not only casual golfers, but also those who just want to watch one of the best to ever play the game.

Perhaps mirroring the relationship that Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer built after years of intense rivalry, Woods and Mickelson could realize some lucrative deals by joining teams instead of working against each other, and this possible TV special could be a major first step.

Mickelson knows, however, that Woods has bragging rights in nearly every category in golf history, his 14 major titles and 79 career US PGA triumphs each second on the all-time lists. Such head-to-head matches were more of a thing around the turn of the century, when Woods was in his prime and cord-cutting had yet to kneecap television viewership, and they garnered ratings that today's TV-sports executives would covet. He owns all the trump cards. "So I have to be very careful and strategic in my smack talk", said Mickelson.
