Why Griezmann didn't celebrate France goal against Uruguay

France is moving on to the semi-finals for the first time since 2006, after a 2-0 win over Uruguay. But the ball hit the keeper on the palms, bounced off, and looped over his head and into the net.

Belgium will face France in the semifinals on Tuesday in St. Petersburg.

Griezmann didn't celebrate what was his third goal of the tournament.

All this came about because Griezmann is very close to Diego Godin, Suarez's teammate in the Uruguayan side.

Griezmann scored his goal, which was similar to the one scored by Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale against Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius in the Champions League final, in the 61st minute.

"For now, we have the potential to be in the semi-finals, that is certain", he said.

"Before the quarter-final I had six players that were already booked and now I have everyone available for the next match and that is great also". He likes the traditional South American drink mate, he speaks Spanish like someone from the South American country, and he's been pictured wearing the team's jersey.

"I don't have a preference who we play - we have observed both of them from the beginning of the competition, so let's see what awaits us".

The match at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium pitted France's speed against Uruguay's stubborn defense and its occasional attacking threats.

After being eliminated from the World Cup by France, Luis Suarez had words for Antoine Griezmann after the Frenchman appeared to suggest he was a lover of all things Uruguayan.

"He's not Uruguayan, he's French and he scored a goal", the Barcelona star told reporters.

Brazil almost dug themselves out of it. Renato Augusto's brilliant header gave his team hope, cutting the lead in half with 14 minutes to go before stoppage time.

Hugo Lloris, conversely, was in inspired form, pulling off a stunning save to deny Martin Caceres just minutes after Raphael Varane had given France a first-half lead.

Uruguay almost answered back minutes later, but France kept a clean sheet thanks to this wonderful diving save by keeper Hugo Lloris.
