Celebrate Pokémon GO's second anniversary with Pikachu

Like the various hat-wearing Pikachu that were available during certain in-game events, this Pikachu only differs in appearance, sporting a straw hat and sunglasses. The company announced in a blog post that starting tomorrow and running through the end of the month, there will be a few changes to the Pokémon GO app in commemoration...

It's nearly hard to believe that it has been two years since that fateful turn of events and Pokemon GO is now celebrating its birthday with an abundance of the Pokemon that really started it all: Pikachu.

Interestingly, players can get the Summer Style Pikachu by completing any Research Quest that Pikachu would normally appear as a reward.

This isn't the first time a customised Pikachu has been made available to players. Trainers with a gold Pikachu Fan medal will be able to purchase all related items, which include a T-shirt and Pikachu ears.

Niantic has also revealed that Celebi will be coming to the game soon. But while we wait for player vs. player battles - which might be the next major addition - Niantic wants us to celebrate the game's second anniversary. Niantic didn't give an exact release date for Celebi, but we'll be keeping an eye out for more specifics going forward. Special Research quests afford players the opportunity to catch a mythical Pokemon, and the last time it was available was three months ago for the legendary Mew.
