Special Counsel Robert Mueller told a USA appeals court that Paul Manafort must prepare for his criminal trials while behind bars, citing a judge's finding he can't be trusted to play by the rules.

Manafort was jailed last month after a federal judge revoked his house arrest over allegations of witness tampering in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

Manafort is one of four Trump campaign or White House aides to have been charged in Mueller's investigation.

As The Hill noted, lawyers representing Donald Trump's former campaign manager had asked that Trump not be mentioned at all during the trial, but it now appears that Mueller has plans to tie Manafort's fraud directly to his work with Trump.

A Google search for news articles about "Russian collusion" turned up 2,900,000 results, and thousands of articles have been focused on Manafort.

Manafort's trial is scheduled to start in Virginia later this month and he faces a number of charges including fraud, tax evasion, money laundering, and conspiracy. "Here, it would be hard for the jury to understand why the loans were approved without understanding that the lender approved the loans, in spite of the identified deficiencies, because the senior executive factored in his own personal ambition".

Paul Manafort is being kept in solitary confinement in a Virginia jail in order to "guarantee his safety", his lawyer said in court documents filed this week.

Judge Amy Jackson Berman ordered Manafort into custody on June 15, following a bail revocation hearing in which the federal government accused him of trying to influence potential witnesses who could testify about the nature of his lobbying operation in Europe.
