Marco Asensio staying at Real Madrid

That is the claim of the player's agent Horacio Gaggioli.

The 22-year-old play-maker was linked with a British transfer record switch to Liverpool a few weeks ago.

And during the World Cup in Russian Federation, he responded to the reported interest by saying: 'Liverpool?

That's after the Spanish worldwide, arguably Los Blancos' brightest young talent, started only 22 of the club's 51 La Liga and Champions League matches.

One of Liverpool's key targets is Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, according to Italian publication Calcio Mercato, although he does have a £442 million release clause inserted into his current contract with Los Blancos.

Reports last month suggested that Madrid could sell Asensio in order to fund a big-money move for Neymar this summer, with the Spaniard struggling to nail down a place in Zinedine Zidane's team before his manager's departure. Next season I think he'll be very important in Madrid'.

The Spain global was signed by Madrid in late 2014 and has played the past two seasons with the Champions League holders.

Asensio made 53 appearances in all competitions in 2017-18, scoring 11 goals.

The midfielder did endure a disappointing summer as Spain were surprisingly knocked out of the World Cup by Russian Federation.

The attacking midfielder's minutes could be helped by the possible exit of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is widely expected to join Juventus this summer.
