Prominent cast member of Tarak Mehta ka Ulta Chahma passes away

The maker issued an official statement confirming the same.

In a sad turn of events, actor Kavi Kumar Azad breathed his last on Monday. He was playing the character of Dr. Hathi in TMKOC.

The actor died due to a massive cardiac arrest. The shooting of the show has been cancelled in the Film City as the disheartening news reached the team.

Expressing shock over his demise the show's producer, Asit Kumar Modi, said, "He was an fantastic actor and a very positive person".

It has come as a very shocking news to everyone, especially to the people of the industry as the actor Kavi Kumar Azad passed away today in the morning. He always used to come for shoot even when he was sick. Today he called and informed that he won't be able to make it as he will ill ... but he left us all. And later we got the news that he passed away.

Kavi has also worked with stars like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan in movies like Kyon Ki, Mela and Jodha Akbar, respectively.

His presence from the show will definitely be missed! "The creative director liked my simplicity and we struck a bond after that", he had said. Azad played a pivotal role in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah that made it to the Guinness Book of World Records for "airing the highest number of episodes" on television, both original and repeat. Our condolences to Kavi's family and friends.
