The Nigeria under-23 worldwide is set to arrive in Glasgow for a season-long loan, and could even feature in some capacity on Thursday evening, should the Gers complete the paperwork for the move by Wednesday.

The 22-year-old midfielder is the eighth signing of the summer window for new manager Steven Gerrard, subject to worldwide clearance.

"It is hard to say whether it will be done before the first leg [of Europa League qualifying on Thursday], but we will be doing more business".

Coulibaly may be followed through the entrance at Ibrox very soon with the club said to be confident of securing a season-long loan move for Roma forward Umar Sadiq. He must be registered 24 hours before Thursday's Europa League first leg tie at home to Shkupi if he is to be available for the Gers' first competitive games of the season.

Umar, 21, scored twice in six Serie A appearances for Roma during the 2015-16 season, but has spent time out on loan with Bologna, Torino and NAC Breda over the last couple of years. I truly am excited to be joining Rangers, it is a historical club and I can't wait to play here.

"He asked me if I wanted to join his team, and I said yes, although I was anxious it wasn't actually Gerrard [on the phone]!"

He smiled: "I don't like to say anything about myself but I am a hardworking player who always wants to help the team".

"Rangers is a good team, I'd heard the name before Gerrard came in here".
