Environment Canada is warning the public in several regions in southern Saskatchewan about tornadoes.

The warning was issued at 3:56 p.m. for communities including Herbert, Cabri, Kyle, Lucky Lake and Swift Current.

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts and up to nickel size hail.

A possible tornado has been spotted in the Shamrock area, 100 kilometres southwest of Moose Jaw.

Another warning was also issued for Assiniboia, Gravelbourg and Coronarch.

According to Environment Canada, the potential tornado is now located over the Herbert area and is moving east at approximately 10 km/h.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

If a tornado does form, Environment Canada says to take cover indoors away from walls and windows, or lie in a low spot.
