Southampton reportedly on verge of signing Gunn from Manchester City

Southampton are closing in on deals for Manchester City goalkeeper Angus Gunn and Borussia Monchengladbach defender Jannik Vestergaard, Press Association Sport understands.

Norwich-born Gunn, the son of Canaries legend Bryan, was an ever-present in the Championship for Norwich last season and was voted into third place by fans in the player-of-the-season stakes.

The 22 year-old moved to Manchester City in 2011 but has spent the majority of his time in the Championship. The youngster finds himself down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium, behind Ederson and his deputy Claudio Bravo.

Southampton's goalkeeper position appears up for grabs with both Fraser Forster and Alex McCarthy in the frame, but the Man City shot-stopper could be a major success at St Mary's ahead of them.

McCarthy finished last season as the number 1 for Mark Hughes' team, but Gunn will be expected to fight for the spot between the sticks on the south coast.

Gunn has already made appearances throughout the England youth sides, most notably managing 11 appearances for the Under-21 setup.

If he completes his move, Gunn could be joined at St Mary's by Denmark global Jannik Vestergaard after Southampton agreed an £18m fee for the defender with German club Borussia Monchengladbach.
