American tourist killed in Mexico identified

Soon afterward, the couple would travel from their home in California to Mexico City for what was supposed to be a celebration of their first wedding anniversary, Mirutenko's family told ABC 7 News.

Tatiana Mirutenko was shot in the head as she, her husband of one year, James, and some friends they were traveling with left a restaurant in the upscale neighborhood of Lomas de Chapultepec, according to media reports.

Tatiana Mirutenko, 27, was shot while exiting a restaurant in the Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood of the Mexico capital at about 5:50 a.m. The 46-year-old bouncer from Huixquilucan, who worked at a bar in the nearby Polanco area, was transported to a hospital.

Mirutenko, her husband, and two friends were either eating at a restaurant or on their way out when the shooting occurred.

Mirutenko was a senior investor relations analyst for a San Francisco company that issued a statement calling her a "bright and passionate rising star", the station reported. We extend our honest condolences to friends and family members of the deceased.

Clemson economics professor Raymond Sauer said he doesn't remember many students from five years ago, but Mirutenko is an exception.

'Today we were looking at flowers for the funeral, ' her heartbroken father Wasyl told ABC. The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City is providing all appropriate consular services to her family.

"She would give 200 percent", said Natalie. It was heartbreaking to all of us in the Sports Performance family. She was vacationing in Mexico City on a delayed honeymoon trip and celebrating her one-year wedding anniversary.

The U.S. Department of State confirmed the American woman's death. The government also warns tourists to "exercise increased caution" when visiting Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and Mexico City.

"We were devastated to hear the news of Tatiana's death".

"She was always willing to help on any project across the company and had an incredibly strong work ethic", Ms Ruddock said. "Many throughout Nektar, and outside the company, valued her positive energy, insight and sheer enthusiasm for life".
