The big South African's hopes looked forlorn as Federer skipped through the opening two sets on Court One with his usual panache but he turned the match on its head to cause the biggest shock yet in a tournament full of upsets. This was a long match, very gruelling.' Analyzing his win over Monfils, Anderson said: 'Ithigh-qualityquality match, I had to dig deep which makes getting through to the quarter-finals for the first time even more special. Nor had anyone over the last 34 sets Federer had played at the All England Club, until Anderson nicked the third.

He held serve in the 24th game to take the match.

"I just kept on telling myself I have to continue believing". You have to have that mindset.

The Swiss walked off the court after defeat at Wimbledon for the first time in two years but it was in unfamiliar surroundings; SW19 authorities scheduled him on No 1 Court for the first time since his 2015 quarter-final against Gilles Simon.

In their four previous meetings Anderson, 32, had not taken a set off Federer. And he had held serve 81 games in a row at the grass-court major, a streak that grew to 85 before Anderson broke him a surprising total of four times.

The South African is through to the last eight for the first time, and he said: 'Playing somebody like Roger Federer is going to be a great experience. "I just gave it my all and I'm ecstatic to get through that".

And, despite his two-set advantage, the 20-times grand slam victor never looked entirely comfortable, despite having never previously lost a set to Anderson in four other meetings.

After a slump following two years of nearly total domination of the men's game, Djokovic's star appears to be back on the rise and he is a clear contender to win a fourth Wimbledon title. Nishikori did the same in the fourth set and he didn't get a warning.

"I think Rafa and Del Potro had to be on Centre Court", Murray told BBC. I think that's not fair.

"I am peaking at the right moment".
