When he made a five -footer for par at the 14th hole to preserve what was then a four-stroke advantage, Na felt like he could could see the finish line clearly.

"It's tough to describe how awesome this feels". I remember thinking as soon as I hit it, I was like, 'Oh, I've hit it a bit firm, ' and it just started tracking and it dropped, unbelievable.

With an early eagle on the fourth hole, the Scot added birdies at both the sixth and 10th holes as Van Rooyen struggled with three bogeys in his opening nine holes. Like, just react.' I mean, I pured the putt.

"It's why I play golf - all the practice days, all the misses, all the bad moments, all are taken care of with putts like that".

"Making two of them from an nearly identical position is obviously a bit of a bonus".

"To make a putt like that, it's a dream come true", he said.

"I'm just lucky to win one of these massive events, so thank you very much to Rolex".

"Obviously I needed a stretch like this", said Knox regarding his hopes of making Thomas Bjorn's team.

The Scotsman is set to climb into the world's top 50, having tied for second place at the French Open last week, and is fifth in the Race to Dubai. I need to hammer down and I'm going to have to make that team in order to go to France.

"I am thrilled to go back to Scotland for two weeks where I grew up", he said.

"I am not being greedy".

Then in the play-off he had an nearly similar putt to extend the play-off but his effort lipped out and Russell Knox was able to celebrate a first Irish Open win. "Might as well go try and win there".

"He also sent me a couple of videos of my body language after all the missed putts this week", laughed the four-time major victor. However, after taking just 27 putts on the final day, he's confident he's close to hitting his top form for The Open.

Erik van Rooyen led by four overnight but fell away with a final-round 74.

While disappointed at not winning Fox still earns almost $1.5 million for finishing runner-up and will tee off in the third major of the year the Open at Carnoustie in two weeks time.
