Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has led the tributes to former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, whose €118 million transfer to Juventus was confirmed Tuesday, referring to the winger as "bicho", Portuguese for "bug".

Ronaldo requested to be let go from Real Madrid, ESPN reports, but his old employers seem gracious about his departure.

Ronaldo was Real Madrid's top all-time goal scorer, with 451 goals since moving there in 2009.

"And with them also on an individual level, I have the satisfaction of having won four Ballon d'Ors and three Golden Boots during my time at this huge and extraordinary club". Real Madrid will always be your home.”Comunicado Oficial: Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I only have feelings of enormous gratitude for this club and for this city", he wrote in an open letter to Real Madrid fans. I can only thank them all for the love and affection I have received.

Ronaldo urged president Florentino Perez to accept Juventus's offer following months of intense speculation linking the 33-year-old with a move to the Bianconeri.

Juve president Andrea Agnelli reportedly met up with Ronaldo in Greece on Tuesday morning, where he is now unwinding following his World Cup exertions, and the formalities were completed. And should Ronaldo do four years in Turin, he will be 37 by the time this contract expires. "Beyond the conquered titles, the trophies achieved and the triumphs achieved in the playing fields during these nine years, Cristiano Ronaldo has been an example of dedication, work, responsibility, talent and improvement".

Ronaldo's best ever season as a professional came in 2011-12, when he scored 69 times for club and country. The two played together during Khedira's time at Real. His crossover dribble was already famous when Alex Ferguson brought him to Manchester United ahead of the 2003-04 season and gave him the No. 7 shirt of the recently departed David Beckham.

This makes Juventus one of the favorites to win the Champions League next season, combining Ronaldo with Paulo Dyala and Gonzalo Higuain up.
