Wimbledon could detract from cup final, jokes Roger Federer

The current Wimbledon edition will stay in the history due to the coinciding of the men's singles final, that will start on Sunday at 2:00 PM, with the World Cup final, that takes place at 4:00 PM UK time. Wimbledon concludes with the women's singles championship Saturday, July 14, and the men's singles final Sunday, July 15.

Moreover, Lewis said the All England Club would not erect TV screens on the grounds so ticket holders could watch the World Cup, nor will they use the existing oversize screen on Henman Hill behind Court No. 1 for any objective other than tennis.

But Wimbledon chief executive Richard Lewis has refused to change the championship's stance and said attending spectators were expecting to see tennis. The players [at the World Cup] are going to look up in the crowd and not understand what's going on at Wimbledon!

When asked if he thought people watching the World Cup final on their devices simultaneously would detract from the atmosphere, Federer added: "It's going to happen anyway, if I'm going in the final or not, the Wimbledon final will take place, and so will the World Cup final".

England have progressed to their first World Cup semi-final since 1990.

"Saturday was a fantastic day at the championships".

"I was out and about around the grounds and you could tell when England had scored.it was wonderful".

With England still in contention to reach the final in Moscow, it has been suggested the football tournament could prove a significant distraction as fans at Wimbledon try to keep up with events in the Russian capital. The tennis begins at about 2.10pm with the football kicking off at 4pm.

"Our attitude is that if people aren't affecting other people's enjoyment of the tennis, if they have it on silent or are listening on an earphone, then that is fine", Lewis said, according to The (London) Guardian. We didn't receive a single complaint from anyone who was here who felt their enjoyment of the tennis was interrupted and I'm sure it'll be the same next Sunday.

"Hopefully England will get through to the final and it will be one of the very special days at Wimbledon".

Wimbledon's big screen hasn't shown any England games since Euro 1996.
