Don't forget that Microsoft launched a new Surface Mobile Mouse alongside the Surface Go, which is also up for pre-order. Those in the education sector (teachers, students or parents) and members of the armed forces will get a small discount of a fiver or just over. The device is primarily meant to be used in landscape orientation which is why it comes with thin bezels on the left and right edges while both its sides in landscape orientation come with bigger bezels to make it easier to hold. This is the thinking behind the new Microsoft Surface Go. There's also a built-in kickstand that can extend to 165 degrees. Microsoft only provides 64GB of storage, though you can expand your storage with the microSD card slot present on the device. It's stocked with a Pentium Gold processor for slightly better lightweight computing, though it will come with the Windows apps-only environment of Windows 10 S by default. Windows Hello will authenticate users through facial recognition on the 5-megapixel selfie camera. If you prefer a bit more freedom, you can unlock full Windows for free in a couple of steps.

The Surface Go will go up for pre-order from July 10 in the United States, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and other important markets. The Type Cover starts at $99 but will increase to $129 for anyone who wants "laptop-class typing", something that will apparently get them keys with around 1mm of physical travel.

Here's where you get to the true appeal of a Microsoft Surface device: the ability to use it not only as a tablet but also as a laptop-provided you're willing to spend an extra $100 to get the Surface Type Cover (which doubles as a keyboard).

The Surface Pen is also supported by the Surface Go, meaning users can effortlessly scribble down notes or sketch away.

That's on August 2 in the US, August 23 in the United Kingdom, and August 27 in Australia. Does it look more tempting than an iPad?
