Kieran Trippier left the Luzhniki pitch in tears against Croatia but his swift return is a major boost for England.

Ecstatic Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic is confident tiredness will not be an issue for his side despite once again coming through extra time to beat England on Wednesday after the same extended show against Denmark and host Russian Federation.

Asked how far he thought the still young England team could progress in the next World Cup, he said: "This far, if not the final".

"We want to be in semi-finals and finals and we've shown to ourselves that that can happen".

Little Harry held his head in his hands as he stood in front of the TV in sheer shock, when it was revealed Gareth Southgate's team wouldn't be making it into the final.

"We had hoped [for this] and we believed in our team, but the feeling when we finally entered the finals can not be compared to anything", said Croatia fan Ivan Kecerin.

The front pages are in stark contrast to how England's performance was portrayed in 2014, when the team were knocked out in the group stages - the first time since 1958.

Unlike the Olympics, where winning third place comes with a bronze medal and some sense of accomplishment, at the World Cup it's only a brutal reminder of how close you came.

England and Belgium will play the third place play-off on Saturday, while the final of the world's top sporting competition will take place on Sunday in Moscow.

Thomas Meunier says beating England to the bronze medal is now the minimum requirement for Belgium at the 2018 World Cup.

Cristiano: "I said that Cristiano would stay because that's what I wanted, but I didn't know anything".

Danny Rose feels "excited to put on an England shirt again" and wants to get regular first-team football.

Take Me Out host Paddy McGuiness said: "Deeply upset but what a World Cup campaign @England have given us". "I'm remarkably proud of the group of players", he added.

However, he was ridiculed during his playing days after missing a crucial penalty at Euro 96 to see England lose on home soil to Germany.
