Judge puts no pressure on prosecutors to end Flynn's cooperation

"(Ret.) Michael T. Flynn has joined the firm Stonington Global LLC and quoted a statement that it attributed to General Flynn", Kelner and Anthony said in a statement to CBS News.

Kelner later emailed a statement to media saying that while Flynn was aware a statement was being drafted he did not intend for it to be released "at this time".

Flynn will serve as the global strategy director for the firm, which will represent USA and foreign clients.

Facing potentially severe charges that included acting as an unregistered lobbyist, Flynn agreed on December 1, 2017 to plead guilty to a single count of lying to investigators in exchange for cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into possible links between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

Sullivan also said he wanted a chance to meet Flynn for the first time and get to know the parties before sentencing.

Kelner also said Flynn, who faces up to six months in prison, could agree to shortening the normal gap between the end of his cooperation with prosecutors and a sentencing hearing because the underlying facts of his plea deal have not changed.

Neither Muzin nor Allaham had previously known Flynn but Allaham told the Wall Street Journal they approached him about joining the firm because 'his experience speaks for itself'.

Flynn, a retired army lieutenant general, served as Trump's national security adviser for only 24 days. "Its issuance now in his name appears to have been the result of a misunderstanding".

Flynn admitted previous year to lying to the government about lobbying work his firm performed for Turkish interests. While the delay in sentencing indicates that Flynn is still playing an active role in the special counsel's investigation, today's hearing did not provide insight about the nature of his role. Prior to his return to the working world, sources close to Flynn say he had been spending time with his family in Rhode Island this summer. A related trial has been set in the District of Columbia in September on money laundering charges.

The special counsel's office and Flynn's lawyers recently requested that probation lawyers prepare a pre-sentencing report.

It was not immediately clear from Tuesday's brief hearing before U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan what continuing obligation remained for Flynn before a sentencing hearing could be scheduled in the case. George Frey/Getty Images In addition to drawing scrutiny over his Russian Federation ties, Flynn was also under a separate FBI investigation for privately working as a paid lobbyist for the Turkish government during the election.

It all just goes to show that they don't call America the "land of opportunity" for nothing: In what other country could a humble, aging, criminally corrupt former high-ranking national security official and unregistered lobbyist for foreign governments work his way up to becoming a registered lobbyist at a firm whose co-founder allegedly helped the Qatari government hack Elliott Broidy's emails?

Flynn arrived at the courthouse Tuesday morning with his wife, Lori, where small groups of rival protesters waved signs and shouted both words of encouragement and derision at the former general.

Some revived a variation of the same chant Flynn led two years ago at the Republican National Convention when he referred to then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
