This year's Call of Duty is a bit special, with Activision announcing earlier this year that Black Ops 4 will arrive without a single-player campaign, and will instead include a battle royale mode named Blackout.

So what modes will be available to play? In September, players will be able to try out Call of Duty's new spin on battle royale, in the beta for a mode Activision and Treyarch are calling Blackout.

As for those playing Black Ops 4 on PC, they will have their own open beta take place beginning on August 11 and lasting until August 13.

For the Private Multiplayer Beta, players will begin fighting through six maps - two of which will make their first public appearance.

Everyone who participates in the beta will be eligible for rewards once Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 comes out October 12th. Additionally, the beta will see a mix of new and returning Specialists, such as Nomad and Prophet.

Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, and the brand-new objective-based game mode Control are playable.

PC players only need a Battle.net account to access the multiplayer beta, but those who pre-purchase through Battle.net will also get a full extra day. "Each team has a limited number of lives in this first-to-three wins match-up", said Treyarch "so strategic strikes and defensive positioning are key, making for some fast and frenetic gunfights". The following weekend from August 10 through August 13, both Xbox One and PS4 players will then both be able to dive in. Unfortunately, Blackout doesn't have a definitive start date or time, but, as stated by Treyarch, "As we get closer to September, we'll share more information about what you can expect from the Private Blackout Beta, first on PS4 - for now, we wanted you to know that it was on the way".
