Monday's remarks by Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi came after Trump last week said that with the USA increasing sanctions on Iran, "at a certain point they're going to call me and say 'let's make a deal, ' and we'll make a deal".

Some in Washington now expect that China will vacuum up much of the Iranian oil that other nations won't buy because of the threat of USA sanctions, according to a senior US government energy official.

The rupee-rial arrangement was used to buy oil from Iran before sanctions were lifted against it three years ago. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed that he has rejected European Union appeals for Iran exemptions. USA sanctions against Iran are likely to be raised in his talks.

Mnuchin says that exemptions are only possible in "very specific circumstances where it clearly benefits our national security".

Enthused at the Indian government granting approval to an Iranian bank recently after nearly 8-9 years of waiting, the two sides are also looking at "different banking mechanisms" to overcome the sanctions imposed by the US.

Iran says if President Donald Trump wants to negotiate after pulling the United States out of the global deal meant to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons, he'll have to make the call.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries agreed with Russian Federation and other oil-producing allies on June 23 to raise output from July, with Saudi Arabia pledging a "measurable" supply boost, but giving no specific numbers. He did not name the country he had not yet consulted.

The talks come as New Delhi is looking at ways to balance its ties with Iran that it considers a key partner in energy and connectivity with those with the U.S., who New Delhi views as a vital source of cutting edge technology and investments.

"What they've asked us to do is review how we get there and the timeline for that", he said. India is yet to take a call on complying with the USA sanctions on Iran. "Iran is committed to the rule of law in the face of U.S. contempt for diplomacy & legal obligations".

The court could not be reached for comment.

His comments appeared to be trying to ease popular concerns fueled by Trump's decision to withdraw from the deal with Iran on its nuclear program.

Trump has said he asked Saudi Arabia to raise oil production if needed to ensure global oil supplies and the country has 2 million barrels per day of spare capacity.
