He noted that the recognition is based on direct feedback from customers who have more airlines to choose from in the highly competitive global environment.

The year 2018 is shaping up to be a big one for Singapore Airlines. More than 100 customer nationalities participated in the survey with 20.36 million eligible entries counted in the results.

As well as taking second place in the World's Best Airline results, Qatar Airways collected major awards for the World's Best Business Class, the Best Business Class Seat, the World's Best First Class Lounge and the Best Airline in the Middle East. "I still remember feeling happy being crowned as the World's Best Low-Cost Airline for the first time 10 years ago".

To do this, the airline has embarked on a three-year transformation plan which was launched just over a year ago. In October, it will relaunch the world's longest flight route by resuming non-stop services between Singapore and NY. There will be no economy class on the plane, which will feature only business and premium economy seating.

The focus of the survey is for customers to make their own, personal choices as to which airline they consider to be the best, underlining the brand as the Passenger's Choice Awards.

Japanese airline ANA was also honoured with the award for the Best Aircraft Cabin Cleanliness and the category of Best Airline Staff in Asia (which combines airport and cabin staff).

AirAsia has been named the world's best low-priced airline for the 10th year in a row. Since its launch, flynas has successfully carried more than 38 million passengers from its bases in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Abha.
