Dad cleaning handgun accidentally shoots and kills 6-year-old daughter

An Indiana six-year-old was shot and killed by her father Friday when his gun accidentally discharged during a cleaning.

According to the Associated Press, police said Makayla S. Bowling's father was cleaning the gun inside a home and thought the weapon was unloaded. The Washington County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call about an accidental shooting around 10:30 p.m. The bullet struck the child in the head, police said. She was later pronounced dead. Authorities have also not disclosed if charges will be filed against Makayla's father. After she was hit in her head she was taken to a hospital 45 miles away where she succumbed to her injuries.

Indiana State Police Detectives do not suspect foul play, though the incident is under investigation.

This incident is now under investigation, but police officers of IN, and it is not yet clear whether filed any charges.
