Iran files complaint against United States at International Court of Justice

In response to a question on the comments made by Iran Deputy Ambassador and Charge d'Affaires Massoud Rezvanian Rahaghi at a seminar that New Delhi would stand to lose "special privileges" if it cut import of Iranian oil following U.S. sanctions, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Mr Raveesh Kumar said his remarks were "misquoted" and that the Iranian side had issued a clarification in this regard.

"We will seek to provide unprecedented financial pressure on the Iranian regime", the letter stated, according to NBC News.

Under the JCPOA, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.

Iran and the other signatories to the 2015 agreement have been scrambling to preserve the limited trade deals they were able to secure since it was signed.


In today's meeting, India told the Iranian side that it was yet to take a call on complying with the USA sanctions.

MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar said last week here that India would welcome greater engagements with the U.S. on the sanctions row. "One thing is very clear that whatever is mandated to be done in our national interest, those things we will be doing".

Many weapons experts in the US and former USA officials say Israeli critics of the agreement are missing the point. The value of imports was almost double the 2016 figure.

Pompeo said that while some countries have fought the measures, most are just looking for more patience with the administration as they wind down their dependency on Iranian oil.
