Putin ‘PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE’ for election meddling says Trump in latest clarification

Putin and I discussed many important subjects at our earlier meeting.

To a question about that assessment, the president told the CBS News interviewer: "I have said that numerous times before, and I would say that is true, yeah".

And experts warn Putin played Trump like a fiddle.

U.S. Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats told a congressional committee in February he already had seen evidence Russian Federation was targeting November's elections when Republican control of the House of Representatives and Senate is at stake.

Speaking during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump was asked by a reporter if Russian Federation was still targeting the US. "Very strong on the fact that we can't have meddling, we can't have any of that", Trump said.

On Tuesday, Trump said he misspoke at a Helsinki news conference with Putin and that he accepted intelligence agency conclusions about Russian election meddling, although he hedged by deviating from his prepared notes to say "it could be other people also".

"It's insane and should be called insane and outrageous, not just by me, but by the USA government", McFaul said.

Most European leaders have little enthusiasm for the U.S. president, and know their own political bases relish it when they oppose him.

"Our relationship with Russian Federation and our positions are the same today as they were on the 15th", the official said.

Russian politicians are rallying behind Putin and shrugging off Trump's wildly contradictory accounts of what he said to Putin at Monday's summit.

Montenegro, or at least Trump's latest comments about it.

"The President's going to meet with his team and we'll let you know when we have an announcement on that", she said. "Doing this in front of a foreign leader - and that too is someone who's an adversary and not an ally - is unimaginable". They're pervasive, and they are meant to undermine America's democracy on a daily basis, regardless of whether it is election time or not, " Coats said during a speech Friday.

The latest twists have seen him at cross-purposes with his aides, and at one point, with himself. We will not kowtow to Putin.

McFaul said the White House, by considering the request, was "assigning moral equivalence between a legitimate indictment of Russian intelligence officers.to a cockamamie fantasy [from Moscow] with no basis in reality".

"People say this is so mystifying, but it's not", Carle said. "They voted for him because they wanted to try something different".

Trump, by contrast, has come under widespread domestic criticism about the meeting both from Democratic opponents and senior Republicans. "I was asking myself when you are going to ask him for an autograph or a selfie or something like that".

US Ambassador to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchinson and John Huntsman, US ambassador to Russian Federation, briefed NATO ambassadors of the North Atlantic Council, the principal decision-making body within NATO, about the Helsinki talks in Brussels on Tuesday. But Putin has accused Browder of perpetrating the fraud, which Browder denies.

When an American reporter asked Putin point-blank whether he had compromising material on Trump, Putin offered a lengthy and roundabout response, ultimately saying it was "difficult to imagine an utter nonsense of a bigger scale than this".

"You have to look at these comments objectively", said a former senior Federal Bureau of Investigation official who requested anonymity to speak freely.

"The most important thing that was made at the press conference [in Helsinki on July 16] was Putin's confession, who admitted that Russian Federation had organized a "referendum" in Crimea".
