The Trudeau shuffle: Winners and losers

Mr. Trudeau named Jim Carr, formerly the resources minister, as the minister charged with worldwide trade diversification.

Those who will be getting new ministerial positions will be sworn in at Rideau Hall by Governor General Julie Payette at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Blair, who promoted the change as a way to crush black market sales of the drug, will also be focused on organized crime reduction.

Former Toronto police chief Bill Blair's promotion to cabinet gives the Trudeau Liberals a political firefighter on the thorny issues of irregular migrants, gun violence and criminal syndicates.

"The entire government has been working collaboratively with provinces and provincial and territorial governments on this issue", Blair said Wednesday.


Canada began seeing an influx of asylum seekers crossing in from the U.S.in early 2017, shortly after President Donald Trump announced he would end a program that offered temporary protected status to immigrants from several countries, including Haiti, to live in the U.S. Once in Canada they have a right to file refugee claims.

"I have been involved in those discussions, and now I hope to bring some additional resources and focus to those issues, and continue the collaborative work taking place".

"We think ultimately it's good news".

Tassi has said in the past that she is "pro-life" but would vote in favour of reproductive choice in any votes on the matter in Parliament.

The writing had been on the wall for a while as the first-term Montreal MP drew poor reviews for failing to sell her home province on the Netflix deal.

Francois-Philippe Champagne becomes Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, he had been Minister of International Trade.

Rodriguez is no stranger to the senior ranks, having previously served as the government's chief whip.

By now it's surely clear to most Canadians, whatever their politics, that if Justin's last name wasn't Trudeau, he wouldn't be the prime minister of Canada today.
