It doesn't give much away, except that the crew is going to go through some pretty gnarly experiences on their way to engage with these "nightflyers". (Syfy is leaning on the Martin connection to market Nightflyers with trailers teasing Nightflyers as "from the mind of George R.R. Martin.") In a blog post published prior to Syfy greenlighting the series, he said that he sat down with Cerone and Buhler to discuss his novella, but he is contractually not allowed to work on the show.

The show, adapted for television by Jeff Buhler, stars Gretchen Mol (Boardwalk Empire), Eoin Macken (The Night Shift), David Ajala (Fast & Furious 6), Sam Strike (EastEnders), Maya Eshet (Teen Wolf), Angus Sampson (Fargo), Jodie Turner-Smith (The Last Ship), and Brían F. O'Byrne (Million Dollar Baby).

The ten-part Netflix series is set in the near future and centres on a group of scientists who journey on the most advanced ship in the galaxy, The Nightflyer, on a mission to the edge of the solar system.

The series, which is billed as a horror-thriller set in 2093, is the brainchild of "Game of Thrones" mastermind George R.R. Martin, who serves as executive producer on the project.

Martin has participated in at least one behind-the-scenes interview where he describes Nightflyers as a "haunted house story on a starship" and "Psycho in space".

Syfy has officially released the trailer for the network's upcoming series Nightflyers. Netflix is co-producing and has the first-run rights to the series outside of the U.S. Nightflyers will arrive on SYFY this fall in the United States and on Netflix worldwide.

Nightflyers improves on the previous adaptation, the 1987 film, in casting actors that fit the ethnicity of the characters in the novella. Nightflyers debuts on Syfy this fall.
