And while Trump's tried-and-true base will stick by him, most voters won't easily forget watching the president get his hat handed to him by none other than Vladimir Putin, the former KGB agent and now head of the Evil Empire.

"I said the word "would" instead of "wouldn't", Trump told reporters at the White House, more than 24 hours after his appearance with Putin.

"They wake up in the morning and they know Trump has done something wrong, they just don't know what it is yet", he said.

The Twitter user who first pointed out the First Lady's odd reaction, @srmduke87, wrote: 'I think she looked scared to death'.

Lawmakers called his comments shameful and a disgrace to the USA presidency.

He was widely attacked for appearing to side with Putin rather than his own intelligence agencies over the Russian state's involvement in hacking the Democratic Party during the 2016 election.

That aside, he still promised "big results" will come.

Trump said he now "accepts" the intelligence community's conclusion that Russian Federation meddled in the United States presidential election - the opposite of what he said in Helsinki - and claimed he used the wrong word.

On Tuesday night, Jimmy Kimmel blasted President Donald Trump for his "clarification ceremony" that backpedaled remarks made at Monday's press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin. "We got along well which truly bothered many haters who wanted to see a boxing match".

Amid bipartisan condemnation of his embrace of a longtime US enemy, Trump sought to end 27 hours of recrimination by delivering a rare admission of error Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Trump attempted to walk back his widely criticized comments, saying he agreed with the USA intelligence community's assessment that Russian Federation interfered in the election. And the scripted cleanup pertained only to the least defensible of his comments.

Trump added that he had "full faith and support" in U.S. intelligence agencies and as he repeated the remark, the lights in the room were suddenly dimmed off. "Whoops, they just turned off the lights". But he added, as he usually does, "It could be other people also. Our response to the debasement of American interests before a foreign adversary demands a response not just in word but in deed", Schumer said. And it why I believe we are at a critical point'. When tensions are higher than they've ever been - including the Bay of Pigs - when tensions are higher between the USA and Russian Federation than ever before, I'm not going to stand next to the man and call him a liar to his face because it would undo all of the great progress we had just made.

He then tried to change the subject to blame Democrats for being soft on national security.
